Caffeine is life and it’s a work from home essential, so I wanted to pass on the knowledge I recently gained on how to make pour over coffee at home! Pour over coffee accentuates the flavors & aromas of coffee and allows you to really personalize your perfect brew.
Funny story: When I was a student at university, I used to take my coffee with 4 milks & 4 sugars (crazy right?!). I partially blame the coffee at the accounting firm I worked at, it was weak & tasted horrible so the milk & sugar was a must. But, overtime, I cut the sugar intake by half a packet and then attacked the milk until I started drinking black coffee. I can now fully enjoy the flavors and benefits! According to WebMD, “Black coffee is rich in antioxidants, which can fight cell damage and reduce your risk of serious health conditions like cancer and heart disease. Coffee is the primary source of antioxidants in most American diets. Black coffee also contains high levels of: Vitamin B2.”
I partnered with Hamilton Beach, Melitta & El Voyage to show you how to make pour over coffee in 5 easy steps!
Step 1: First, you need to freshly grind your coffee beans using Hamilton Beach custom grind™ coffee grinder. It has multiple grind settings which let you customize your coffee precisely & a removable stainless steel chamber for mess-free pouring and easy cleaning. Grind it as thinly as you like – I used the medium setting. I chose the El Voyage Full City Roast whole beans from Guatemala for my pour-over coffee, it has a full-body flavor & it’s really smooth! Ever since I discovered this coffee in NYC during NYFW, I’m obsessed!
Step 2: Boil the water using Hamilton Beach glass electric kettle. It has 6 programmed adjustable temperature settings, you just click start & select the ‘French Press’ button. The blue light will turn on, signaling that the device is all set to boil the water to the perfect temperature for a pour over coffee.
Step 3: Set up the pour over – I like to use the Melitta heritage series ceramic Pour-Over™ – it’s very easy to use & clean. You just stack the top & bottom parts & add a filter. Then place about 2 scoops of coffee for 1.5 cups. You can put more scoops if you like your coffee stronger, or less if you like it light.
Step 4: Slowly pour the water over the grinded coffee beans.
Step 5: Allow the water to filter through the grains fully & Enjoy!
