Zara Trench Coat (similar: Calvin Klein Trench Coat at Nordstrom) // Zara Boyfriend Jeans (also loving these Shopbop boyfriend jeans) // Guess Denim Shirt (similar ones: One Teaspoon Denim Shirt at Shopbop, Treasure&Bond Denim Shirt at Nordstrom) // Michael Kors Handbag (also really want this Michael Kors quilted bag at Shopbop) // Ray ban shades(same Ray ban sunglasses at Shopbop)
It’s been raining non-stop all week in Montreal & I’ve been getting a lot of use from this Zara trench coat. I think it’s a closet staple every woman needs & today’s post is all about how to find one.
1- Color: There are various colors to chose from & various shade variations. If you opt for khaki (a classic & also my favourite), pick the shade that best compliments your skin tone. This is very subjective – they say that if you have fair skin you should wear a deeper khaki shade & vice versa if your complexion is darker, however I found that the lighter khaki looked better on me than the darker one, even though I have a fair complexion. To pick the best shade, I recommend trying it on against your skin, it’s the one way you will know for sure.
2- Fit: Make sure the trench coat is roomy enough to move in & to wear something warm underneath, yet fitted enough to hug your silhouette. Make sure the shoulder seems rest at your shoulders – if they are too low, it generally means the coat is too large. Finally, you should be able to button it up without any gaping & the back opening should remain flat, if it comes off a bit, it means the coat is too small.
3- Material: When picking the material, it’s important that it is water resistant & that will it last a long time. You should be looking for materials such as cotton, nylon and polyester.
4- Extras: A trench coat with a belt is best as it compliments every silhouette. As for the belt design, button size & color as well as linings, that’s all up to you – get your creativity flowing!
Happy Monday!
