PUT AN OUTFIT TOGETHER IN 5 MINS

Obsessed with lace up tops & faux leather pants! Lace up tops just add so much visual interest to an outfit; they’re so fun and feminine, I just can’t get enough! And faux leather pants are so easy to pair with anything, and I think they make an outfit look richer, don’t you think? But this post is not about lace tops or faux leather pants, it’s about tips & tricks on how to put together an outfit in 5 minutes! Ready? Here we go:

1- Figure out the dress code: Depending on whether you are heading out to work, out on the town, gathering with friends or a party, you will be looking for a different type of outfit. Within each category, you also need to access the attire. For example, is your work place corporate, fashion driven or casual? In my case, it’s fashion driven, so I will wear something casual but trendy.

2- Picking the key piece of your outfit: Choose that one piece that speaks to you- this long cardi was the key piece! I opened my closet and my eyes laid on this long cardi, so I decided to build my outfit around the cardi. If you are uninspired, then browse Pinterest or your favorite blogs, it will inspire an idea.

3- Put together the outfit: Since it’s the middle of Winter in Montreal, I opted for warm faux leather pants (and I threw on a coat you cannot see on this picture). The style of your outfit will depend on your personality! I like to go with a minimalist approach (less is more), so I chose a white top and faux leather pants. But, I didn’t want the outfit to look bland, so I went for the lace up top to add visual interest. Since the cardi is busy enough with splashes of orange, I went for neutral tones for the rest of the outfit. Not to mention that black and white go with everything! If you’re unsure what works, you can always go to Pinterest and type in your key piece: long cardi. There will be tons of pictures to use as inspo. But, as a general rule, everything goes with neutrals, so don’t be afraid :) Also, remember not to be too matchy matchy!

4- Accessorize: The old rules used to dictate that you should match the bag with your shoes. And you could totally do it, but it doesn’t have to be this way at all. You can pick a bag that simple ‘goes’ with the outfit. With neutrals, all other neutrals work, so I went for a camel bootie and a black cross body bag. Since the top has visual interest, I decided to not add any necklaces or earrings.

5- You are ready to go! ;)
